WASHINGTON (AP) — The Supreme Court on Tuesday ordered the Maine legislature to count the votes of a GOP lawmaker who was censured after she identified a transgender teen athlete in a viral social-media post. The court majority sided with Rep. Laurel Libby, who filed an emergency appeal to restore her ability to vote while her lawsuit over the punishment plays out. There were two noted dissents, Justices Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson. The majority did not explain its reasoning, as is typical on the court’s emergency docket. Jackson, for her part, said the case isn’t an emergency in…
WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Senate will move this week to block California from enforcing a series of vehicle emissions standards that are tougher than the federal government’s, including first-in-the-nation rules phasing out the sale of new gas-powered cars by 2035. Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.D., said Tuesday that the Senate will begin to consider three House-passed resolutions that would roll back the standards. Final votes could come as soon as this week. His announcement came despite significant pushback from Democrats, questions from some Republicans and the advice of the Senate Parliamentarian, who has sided with the U.S. General Accountability…

(The Center Square) — Construction of a $5 billion wind farm off the coast of New York will resume after the Trump administration lifted a month-old stop-work order on the clean energy project. Interior Secretary Doug Burgum paused the Empire Wind 1 project last month, claiming the previous Biden administration “rushed” it through the federal environmental review process. But late Monday, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced that after negotiations with White House officials, the federal government has agreed to rescind the stop-work order and allow the project to move forward.”I want to thank President Trump for his willingness to work with me to…

Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil’s legal team on Monday released new footage of the minutes leading up to his March arrest that they say contradicts the government’s argument that he was a flight risk, which officials had said justified his detainment without an arrest warrant. The Columbia activist who helped organize pro-Palestinian rallies on campus a year ago has been held in a detention center in Louisiana for two months. The Syrian-born green card holder has been fighting his detention and deportation since his arrest, which was the first under the White House administration’s promised campaign against students who protested the war in…
For years, Kash Patel and Dan Bongino have said the Biden administration and corrupt “deep state” actors “weaponized” the FBI against Donald Trump. They accused the bureau of covering up what it knew about pipe bombs placed before the Jan. 6 attack. They suggested that FBI operatives helped ignite the Capitol riot. They said FBI agents committed crimes and tried to “overthrow” Trump. When Patel and Bongino did that, they weren’t just saying they disagreed with FBI investigative or prosecution decisions. They were accusing people of federal crimes. It would be illegal to investigate and prosecute someone because you didn’t like their political…
