Marc Fogel had traveled readily to and from Russia many times before his fateful last return to the country in August 2021. He had taught history for almost a decade, mostly to the children of diplomats, at the Anglo-American School in Moscow. But on entering Russia ahead of what he had decided would be his final year teaching at the school, Mr. Fogel was arrested and accused of smuggling drugs — less than an ounce of cannabis that he used to treat chronic back pain. TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — After weeks of war between Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and leaders in his own party, state Republicans have reached a deal on new legislation to help implement President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda. The negotiations led to DeSantis keeping more immigration authority than was originally proposed by Republicans in the state legislature, but he also had to make concessions as part of the deal — something DeSantis has not previously had to do during his six years in office, as a compliant legislature generally handed him everything he had asked before his 2024 presidential campaign. The fight in Florida was…

US trade partners criticise Trump for 25-percent steel, aluminium tariffs | International Trade News
Allies like Canada called the tariffs ‘unacceptable’, arguing they weaken economic integration and hurt economies.Several of the United States’ main trading partners have condemned President Donald Trump’s decision to hike tariff rates on all steel and aluminium imports starting next month. Leaders from Mexico, Canada and the European Union on Tuesday described the move as reckless and counterproductive, warning that they would respond with their own measures in kind. “I deeply regret the US decision to impose tariffs on European steel and aluminum exports,” Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, reaffirmed in a social media post.…
