Esa lista, dijeron los funcionarios, incluía Angola, Antigua y Barbuda, Benín, Burkina Faso, Camboya, Camerún, Cabo Verde, Chad, la República del Congo, la República Democrática del Congo, Dominica, Guinea Ecuatorial, Gambia, Liberia, Malawi, Malí, Mauritania, San Cristóbal y Nieves, Santa Lucía, Santo Tomé y Príncipe, Vanuatu y Zimbabue.

Poco después de convertirse en presidente, en enero de 2021, Joe Biden emitió una proclama revocando las prohibiciones de viaje de Trump, calificándolas de “mancha en nuestra conciencia nacional” e “incoherentes con nuestra larga historia de acoger a personas de todas las creencias y de ninguna fe en lo absoluto”.

La orden ejecutiva de Trump de enero decía que reviviría las prohibiciones para proteger a los ciudadanos estadounidenses “de los extranjeros que pretendan cometer atentados terroristas, amenazar nuestra seguridad nacional, propugnar una ideología de odio o explotar de otro modo las leyes de inmigración con fines malévolos”.
